Luxurious blend of tradition and modern in this stunning mansion

There’s nothing more British than a hearty breakfast spread, best enjoyed in the comforts of a rustic, homely bed-and-breakfast. Caer Rhun Hall takes all of that and ups the luxury quotient in this quiet corner of the world.

Recently opened following a refurbishment, Caer Rhun Hall, part of Whisper Hotels, is a sprawling, three-storey late-Victorian mansion that’s set in the magnificent Welsh countryside. It’s the perfect base for a leisurely bike through the woods: additionally, the beautiful North Wales Coastline, with its sandy beaches and fringed mountains, are all within a 15-minute drive from the property.

From its dramatic Tudor panelled hallways to the cosy drinking den, the Apothecary, every aspect of Caer Rhun Hall recalls old British royalty. Rooms are slick and modern, but replete with traditional touches, such as mahogany fireplaces and roll-top baths.

The centrepiece of the dining room is undoubtedly the length country table, which transforms each morning into a mouthwatering spread of local meats, cheeses, breads and other produce from the local farming community.

The atmosphere at Caer Rhun Hall is one of old luxury, combined with an unhurried atmosphere and a countryside setting, makings of a cosy, memorable stay. For the ideal long weekend, the best way to get there is to rent a car from London and drive northwest on the M1 towards North Wales coastline, passing near Oxford and Birmingham along the way.

What’s nearby: Snowdon – Wales’s highest mountain, Snowdonia National Park (take the Snowdon Mountain Railway for picturesque views of the countryside), Llandudno’s sculpture trail and the Victorian tramway up 1,500 m to Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve. whisperhotelscollection.com
