The freshly opened Intercontinental Phu Quoc in Vietnam now has another claim to fame – it’s home to the highest bar on the island, a dramatic, avant-garde nightspot styled after exotic sea monsters of lore. INK 360 is perched on the 19th floor of the hotel, overlooking the island’s white beaches and pristine waters for as far as the eye can see. Inside the skybar, the nautical motif continues – the huge, dramatic tendrils wrought of iron coiled up around the main bar are hard to miss.
INK 360 tempers its bold aesthetic with more subtle design elements as well, including mother of pearl inlays and white marble floors to evoke the smooth ocean floor. While the skybar’s aesthetic sensibilities certainly make a statement, the real draw comes from behind the bar.
Bespoke cocktails are the top of the menu here – but if you’re pressed to think of your own dram, let the maestros behind the bar work their magic. Signature cocktails include the Uncle Ho Penicillin, a bracing mixture of Scottish whiskey, locally sourced honey and lapsangsouchong, is a heady East-meets-West elixir that will put a spring in your step.
On an island as beautiful as Phu Quoc, there’s no better way to round up your day than to sit back in a lounger atop the highest bar in the island, and luxuriate in the warmth of the setting sun with a cold cocktail in hand. phuquoc. ◼
